LMR BALLISTA railgun by FutureFavorite LMR BALLISTA railgun by FutureFavorite
An unfinished design sitting in my computer for nearly 6 months now, decided to dust it off and finish it.

a personal Railgun design being use by a personal soldier design.

wanting to design an incredibly powerful but sub-compact or weapon able to use with hands and thought a railgun would work absolutely perfect, but wanted to do it in such a way that it looked like a tech sheet or conceptual piece

(semi-inspired by the glorious AARON BECK.)

a personal fav of mine :)

(EDIT! its supposed to say 36 pounds, sorry!

I _thought_ it looked kinda Aaron Beck. Always nice to see such an awesome-looking railgun :)

At almost 57 pounds, I'm impressed he's shouldering it like that. Powered armor?

Ah my mistake, I need to fix some of the info, it should actually be like, 37 pounds, including the weapon, battery, charger, and weapon laptop that it's plugged into,

No a combination of tech and fabric soft armor

Ah, that makes more sense. By the way, I dig all the company logos you've got here.

Really good piece but on a technical side, could personal railguns even be practical as a personal firearm with guns still about? Maybe in some point in the future magnetic propulsion reaches efficiency greater than traditional firearms?
Still, there is one thing that railguns will always have more than firearms: their awesomeness :D

Well, possibly, magnetic motors 10 x more efficient then oil or convential power means are already made, and uses practically no energy.

So the issue of power isn't really the problem more so of containing it and directing it, which I'm not entirely sure how.

Real life rail guns sure attached on special war naval ships and are absolutely devastating to anything in hits.

Hah, neat. It's always a pleasure to see other people's interpretations of what man-portable rail-guns will be like in the future. My personal take is micro-coils, but... alas, in some distant universe where every weapon is detectable via electro-thermal disruption.

The technical side of the gun is all about magnetic force, well...battery charged of cours, but it leans a bit on the coil gun side set times.

Looks like the guns which appear on Blonkamp's "Elysium" (which are man-portable BFGs).

yes and no, this only has a three round magazine and fires a far more devastating projectile, i mean, you could use it to shoot infantry, which would probably knock them backwards in half, but its better used as a anti tank weapon the rifle in elysium, although bad ass, is more an overpowered assault rifle with an electromagnetic rail system. which is still cool.

The problem with railguns is the recoil, which would probably leave the firer's shoulder several hundred metres behind him.

Yes, and I'm not entirely sure how to fix it in terms of psychics and mechanics, but I've added a magnetic recoil buffer mechanism in the stock of the weapon to help address this issue, that and only having a three round magazine should help stabilize

Giving the soldier powered armour and making the gun massively heavy would work, but as far as just giving a railgun to an un-augmented soldier is concerned I'm not sure.

I need to adjust the weight, I had just put a weight off of the top of my head, should really be like 35 pounds or so including all the equipment and computers

That is a decent weight but you will want to put a bipod on it as will be practically impossible to fire standing up. An m240b weighs about 25lb minus ammo and that shit tires your arms out quick.

Thanks or breaking that down for me, man.

It still a pretty kickass weapon, what your art showcases (it's an anti-tank man-portable rifle weapon. How much kick-ass can it get?).
